The 8 limbs adventure retreat includes: 3 hours each of yoga, slacklining, and partner acrobatics, over five hours of rock climbing, two hours of hooping, hiking, and massage, and an hour of belly dancing.
Like an octopus with 8 limbs, we humans have the ability to reach out in many directions and grab a hold of what life has to offer. By exploring 8 different activities over the course of the weekend, the retreat is designed to give you a sense of full body awareness. Our “adventures” will range from restorative yoga to challenging climbs, yet all share a consistent playful and supportive undertone. Above all you will gain access to an array of tools that help wake up the body, calm the mind, and enhance a healthy lifestyle. Organic breakfast and dinner prepared by our experienced camp chef will be provided. Come and connect with others in your willingness to branch out. The retreat is held at the gorgeous Liberty Advance Retreat Center.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
YOGA(3hr) - Yoga will be the beginning to our day and the theme that runs through each of our activities. Yoga, the union of mind, body, and spirit, teaches us how to find stability and energy in physical movements, while still keeping a peaceful mind and flowing breath. Through our vinyasa flow classes (classes which link breath to each posture), we’ll explore the influence that the mind and the breath on the body. Classes are appropriate for and will challenge all levels; no previous yoga experience required. Classes will be lead by Anna and Sam, and will specifically prepare your body, breath and mind for the activities to follow.
HOOP(2hr) - The circular nature of the hoop provides endless creative possibilities. Allow Adelaide to get you started with a few fun tricks to get your hoops spinning. This workshop introduces a combination of both on and off the body hoop manipulation, open to all ages and skill levels. If you have a hoop, bring it; otherwise they will be provided.
ACROBATIC YOGA(3hr) - The dynamics of working with another person acrobatically can be like learning to walk again, except this time you’ll be flying! This workshop teaches you how to sync up and connect with others through counter balances, partner yoga, and breath. No experience or partner is necessary, but a foundational yoga practice is helpful. Taught by the dynamic duo, Sam and Adelaide.
BELLY DANCE(1hr) - Adelaide’s Belly Dance workshops are a fun way to wake up your body while challenging your coordination and getting in shape. As a second generation Belly Dancer and full-time professional, Adelaide is an expert in this field and able to adapt her teaching to students at all skill levels. This workshop includes Belly Dance fundamentals, body isolations, harmonized arm movements, and shimmies.
SLACKLINE(3hr) - Although growing quickly in popularity, “SlackLining” is still somewhat a secret art. The Slackline is similar to a tight rope though closer to the ground, flatter, and with more “slack” (hints the name). Though it may look intimidating, this workshop makes it accessible for everyone! Workshop includes the fundamentals of sitting, kneeling, arm balancing, standing and walking on the line. Taught By YogaSlackers co-founder Sam Salwei and YogaSlacker Paul Cassedy, this workshop will surely redefine your sense of balance and mental focus.
ROCK CLIMBING(5hr) – Sam Salwei, part-owner of Northern Heights Rock Gym and experienced climber of 9 years, will safely guide you in exploring the vertical world. Enjoy the rare opportunity of rock climbing in an outdoor class setting geared towards beginners with advanced options up to 5.11. Our expertise and professional equipment combined with a exclusive outdoor location will give you everything you need to take your body awareness to new heights.
HIKING/TRAIL RUNNING(2hr) – This ancient and sacred form of travel will be a necessary transition to the staging areas of our different activities. All of our activities are staged in close proximity to the retreat center, but for some activities, like rock climbing, we’ll need to gracefully transition from our low-lying campsite up to the base of rock climbing walls. Just as in yoga, our transitions are important and not to be rushed; therefor, expedience in hiking is not required, but a basic level of physical fitness is helpful.
As well as... INVERTED THAI MASSAGE(2hr) -- & DREAMING meditation(unlimited) --
